U.S. football at Wembley in London all crazy for the NFL
Eighty-four thousand, two hundred fifty-four paying spectators. American football backgrounds in old Europe and conquered England. The Temple of English football, Wembley, has been colonized by helmets and armor last Sunday of October. Down the doors with the networks, re-designed and adapted to the oval ball confinti the field, cheerleaders and mascots from relief prominently, has staged an official competition of the NFL season: the New England Patriots against the Buccaneers in Tampa, Florida . The team of Tom Brady, admired star of the National Football League, had no problem in continuing its march towards a possible new title and defeated their opponents by 35 to 7. But they were waiting first, and the participation and enthusiasm of the public then to hit more than any competitive aspect. Play in the home of football and rugby and generate a following so convinced now requires a careful consideration of the possibility of expansion of football beyond the borders of the United States.

It was the third time that the NFL tried the European experiment and the growing and unstoppable success of the initiative led the league commissioner, Roger Goodell, to talk about a possible forthcoming European investment. In these terms: “The interest and enthusiasm for our game continues to progress here and we want to meet this growing demand, the first thing so we hope to bring more games in Europe.” Behind the words, the facts: the league wants to play at least two matches of the regular season in London, Manchester and Scotland, in Glasgow, to continue a project that should lead to the emergence of a European team that can compete in the NFL. Which, if achieved, would mark a turning point unimaginable ten years ago for American football.

In London, therefore, there was great enthusiasm by all involved in the match. After hearing Tom Brady, famous and off the pitch because, with the Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen is one of the richest couple, famous and beautiful in the world: “I consider a privilege to play here, I felt the same atmosphere and excitement of when you dispute a Superbowl for ten minutes we were literally blinded by the flash, I had many times in the United States at such moments, fantastic. ” Pressed by reporters also the European champion of qb added: “I think it’s a real privilege to kick this field, playing in London and have an experience that for myself, I consider unique. I do not know whether I will have the opportunity to off the ground at Wembley, I hope so. In any case, if unfortunately does not happen more, I could always say he won the only match ‘international’ championship. ” On the same line as his coach, the expert Bill Belichick: “It ‘been a great way to end the weekend, we spent two fantastic days filled with only good things for us.”

The London audience, among others, could see another performance class of crystalline Brady found his comrades who served three sharp steps for 308 yards and threw touchdown, finishing with 23 complete and 2 interceptions on 32 attempts due more to a lack of concentration (given the score and the trend of the match) than anything else. A performance that caused him to say: “I feel very great about my game again, I feel really good shape, it is a nice moment.” Before the match there was the NFL’s show with rock singer Scot, Calvin Harris, the Welsh opera star Katherine Jenkins (who sang ‘God Save the Queen’) and Grammy winner, Toni Braxton. Joy and sports in an evening in London that has made her eyes sparkle at the top of the National Football League, more and more a sports-car business that aims to broaden her horizons. The next step, ‘winning’ Britain. Maybe, with a team made in London.

“Elisa is to participate in Miss World.” Is no longer just a call which arrives from Verona. The case of the eighteen year old Vago di Lavagno suspended by the famous beauty contest because “guilty” of being the mother of a child of four years, is now the center of a tug of war between Rome and London. Because the patron of the Italian edition of Miss World, Antonio Marzano, wrote to the director of the award, Julia Morley, in the hope of obtaining a difficult exception to strict protocol world. “We aim to protect and safeguard the image of the woman – says Marzano in all its myriad facets, even and especially in that beautiful and sweet of mom able to raise their children. We hope that the oldest and most prestigious beauty pageant in the world, and you, Mr Morley, grasps the reasons for this request by allowing Elisa Marangon to participate in the finals of the competition Italian derogating the provisions of Regulation. “

Soon should ar-rivare the answer. This is tearing the organizers of the award, which is based in London, a derogation from Article 4 that states: “The age of competitors must be between 16 and 25 years, not pregnant, not having had children and had never married. ” Elisa 18 years, hairdresser Vago and 80-foot, blond hair and hazel eyes, a few days before had received the band in the Red Room of the Scala Palace. A title that should have opened the access to the national finals of the prize. But it is out of the race for a reason, to many, it was absurd: she is the mother of Mark, a beautiful baby that her mother she had given birth four years ago. But now, thanks to the position taken by March, it opens a crack. “It would be great if they managed to convince the organizers of Miss World to change this rule,” says Elisa. The young hairdresser meanwhile collects the solidarity of another Veronese, Silvia Battisti, who in 2007 won the crown of Miss Italy. “Fortunately – he explains – in Salsomaggiore who has a child is not excluded. I remember when I attended there were some girls who had beautiful mums. I find it unfair to the settlement of Miss World, seems to refer to the old stereotype of the ugly mother by pregnancy. But today is different: the women return in splendid form and are able to effectively manage the dual role of parent and miss. ”

In reality, the rule set by the competition directed by Julia Morley has a purpose primarily related to the role of ‘promotion’ that the future Miss World will play on after the election. The planet queen, in fact, is facing a long list of assignments as a testimonial of beauty that the force for about a year, running from one side of the world. A lifestyle that – according to organizers difficult to reconcile with the needs of a mother. “Having a child is not hindered by a miss. Otherwise it would be for a doctor or any other working woman, “replies Mirca Viola, actress and TV presenter who in 1987 was crowned Miss Italy. She was removed because the mother of Nicolas the band. “I knew at the time the contest rules prohibited the participation of Salsomaggiore mothers – remember but I decided to enroll anyway, because I did not expect to win. Instead she was elected and a few days later, someone phoned a newspaper by the light and revealed that he had a son. ” He was expelled and the band went to the runners, the Veronese Michela Rocco di Torrepadula. “But it sparked a storm – continued – from which she emerged with broken bones. But my story has served as an example, and then they changed the rules of Miss Italy. The effect is strange to know that, after more than twenty years, another girl living her own emotions. “I hope – he concludes – that the Miss World organizers decide to change this rule: it is absurd to be discriminated against because mothers.”

Patrizia Mirigliani, which organizes Miss Italy, recalls how he was risota the question: “It was my father – he explains – to insist, after the case of Viola Mirca to change the rule that prevented married women and mothers to participate in the contest. This was a standard old-fashioned. I do not criticize the choice of Miss World, but for our purposes subsequent commitments to the election of queen of Italy are consistent with the commitment that requires a family. “

Famous for the exile of Napoleon, and for offshore sailors, for the cyclone that bears her name, Sant ‘Elena is a remote island in the south’ s nearly two thousand miles from the Atlantic coast of ‘Angola, one of the areas most remote former British Empire, still under the jurisdiction of Her Majesty. Wednesday will be the 4,000 islanders to vote to elect its board in an atmosphere of overt rebellion against British policies. The islanders feel discriminated against compared to other citizens of the United Kingdom: on the island, in fact, everything costs more dramatically than England against salaries much lower. Gasoline costs 1.50 euro compared to the salaries of 5,500 euros per year, just to give a benchmark. Obviously, all goods arriving by sea from many thousands of miles away with a consequent rise in prices, but in this situation, the governor appointed by London, poses no remedy arousing the protests of citizens confronted, as all over the world, with the economic crisis. Greater autonomy, then, what they are asking citizens in these elections. Their leader is Councilor Bernice Olsen hoping to “clip the wings to the British government”

It’s going to hot a week for the banking industry worldwide. While America is preparing to withstand the collapse of the Cit piloted one of the leading financial institutions in the country specializing in lending to SMEs, the Federal Reserve convenes the heads of major banks in order to clamp down on bonuses. And London is about a possible stew for some of the major British banks underpinned by public aid at the height of the crisis: the market should end up at 700 points, the equivalent of a medium-sized Italian bank.
CIT Group, in trouble for months because of the “credit crunch” and recession, has resorted to ‘Chapter 11′ arrangement with its creditors. “The decision to proceed with our plan of reorganization will allow CIT Group to continue to provide funds to small and medium enterprises, a sector of vital importance to the American economy,” said in a statement the chairman and CEO Jeffrey Peek. In the documents filed with the bankruptcy court for the Southern District of New York Cit mentioned $ 65 billion of debt and assets for 71 billion. Cited points to emerge from bankruptcy in two months and scored a billion investor Carl Icahn to support the reorganization. Even Goldman Sachs, which reduced to 2.125 billion dollars from its original three billion credit line, has promised to keep open the financing during the restructuring. According to rumors, the plan would give bondholders 70% of capital plus the 92.5% of ordinary shares and preference shares (including the strongest of 2.33 billion U.S. government anti-crisis aid already granted) 5 percent .
The collapse of the Cit is fifth in size in the history of U.S. funds, but, thanks to the protection of “Chapter 11,” turning away from the eyes of Wall Street the specter of a collapse that could have devastating effects. According to some, given the links Cited by the U.S. business world, comparable to those caused by the end of Lehman Brothers. Yesterday, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said the U.S. banking system has become “dramatically more stable,” yet there is more to do. Today is also the home to roost node of the bonuses: the Fed – which will not be rewarded bankers risk takers – has summoned the leaders of the 28 largest banks in the country to discuss the mechanisms of supervision on wages.
In Europe, the headlights are pointed at London, who – wrote the Sunday Telegraph – is considering selling shares of Lloyds, Northern Rock and Royal Bank of Scotland, the three institutions with the money saved for taxpayers. The slimming was subsequently confirmed, without going into details, the treasury department Alister Darling that there must be “a substantial disinvestment.”
The sale (among prospective buyers are talking about Virginia and supermarket giant Tesco) would create three commercial banks in London and help to recover some of the money spent to help banks, one of several factors that have affected the popularity of Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
